Distress Tolerance Skills

Distress tolerance skills are techniques and strategies used to help individuals endure and mange emotional pain and stressful situations without turning to harmful behaviors or making the situation worse. These skills, often taught in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), focus on accepting and finding ways to cope with distressing emotions and crises in a healthy and productive manner. They include practices such as mindfulness, self-soothing, distraction, and radical acceptance.
